Therapy for Navigating Polyamory
Online therapy for Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and New Mexico residents, with licensed therapist in Tucson, Jacob Gotwals, MA.
Polyamory involves having multiple romantic or sexual partners simultaneously, with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved. Unlike monogamy, polyamory supports loving, intimate connections with multiple partners at the same time.
Polyamory comes with a special set of challenges.
If you’re in a polyamorous relationship (or considering polyamory), you may be facing challenges like:
Negotiating boundaries, expectations, and agreements: Establishing and maintaining clear boundaries, expectations, and agreements is important to help partners feel safe and secure. Partners may want to negotiate agreements about safer sex practices, emotional or sexual boundaries, and relationship hierarchy.
Jealousy and insecurity: These feelings tend to arise in polyamorous relationships due to the presence of multiple partners.
Managing new relationship energy (the intense emotional and physical attraction partners may experience in the early stages of a new relationship). New relationship energy can create challenges in existing relationships.
Communication challenges: When partners have trouble expressing their needs, boundaries, and concerns openly and honestly, this can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts.
Time management issues: It can be hard to balance one’s time across multiple relationships, and this can lead to conflict and hurt feelings and a sense of neglect.
How I Can Help
I can provide individual therapy or couples/relationship therapy to help with the above issues. (Due to limitations in my systems, I am currently unable to provide couples/relationship therapy with more than two clients together.)
